Daily Questions - ASK AND ANSWER HERE! - 13 February 2023

Hey, folks. I’m going to be doing a lot more outdoor activities: camping, hiking, etc. I’ve also been refreshing my style; I’d say I have a mix of vintage/vintage-inspired and modern tastes. I hate getting the calves of my pants wet, muddy, dusty, etc. I also think taller boots look really cool.

The problem is the way taller boots on men have really been co-opted by a certain type of Hugo Boss-wearing genocidal psychopath we all hate. I’m proudly from a staunchly antifascist leftist Jewish-Italian family, so not looking like the fash is really important to me - more than just a question of whether I give a damn what people think.

It’s a bummer that Nazis have sort of cornered the association with tall boots, especially since antifascist partisans have also traditionally worn boots. I’m thinking of the aesthetic of the Italian partisans or the good guys from Inglourious Basterds, which is very similar to my own outdoorsy attire.

Anyway, do you think that L.L. Bean’s 16” lace-up Maine Hunting Boots in brown (definitely note black) are sufficiently non-fascist looking?
