What do people wear when they’re on the client facing side of a casual tech start up? I see a lot of posts by people in tech who are on the engineer side. I’m starting a hybrid job in a few weeks on the business development side and need a new wardrobe because I’ve been mostly remote and my pre-pandemic clothes no longer fit.

For a data point - my boss has a photo of himself on the website wearing a tie and a dress shirt and is by far the most buttoned up person on the bio page. He interviewed me wearing a button up. Everyone else in my interview process was wearing hoodies or t shirts, including the COO and the CEO.

Would dark wash jeans/a nice t-shirt and some kind of shacket/casual blazer be the right call? Black jeans and a nice work top? I tend to lean towards minimalist/black/earth tones/neutrals. I’ll be taking public transit in and live in a cold climate, so would be looking to stick with pants/booties for the most part. I prefer not to wear anything too constricting or in unnatural fabrics for work whenever possible, so the closer I can get to casual/comfortable, the happier I’ll be.
