Thanks for the reply. I’m not new to lifting, however I have generally always prioritised hypertrophy over strength and have never really focused on it hence my uncertainty. I have made my own variation of the PHUL routine with different exercises to suit my own needs. However I felt that the 3/4sets and reps for the compounds as it suggested was not enough volume for me. I wanted to be able to lift 5x5. For example I can currently bench 80kg for 5x5 and I would like to be able to bench 85 for 5x5 and then 90 for 5x5 and so on. I know that if I up the weight to 85 I will definitely not be able to do 5x5. So my question is should I be upping the weight my 5 kilos and dropping the sets until I have worked my way back up to 5x5 or increase the weight minimally whilst still being able to do 5x5 and slowly increasing weight.
