That’s what I figured, but what about muscle gain in a dietary caloric deficit? Is there any actual difference in building muscle compared to a surplus? The difference in calories required to build the muscle just comes from fat as that’s what it’s been stored for right? Is there any biological functions that will break down protein for “calories instead of muscle building” when in a deficit, causing reduced muscle gain? Proteins are just amino acids so they should still be delivered to the muscles and caloric energy used and any additional calories needed for biological functions be taken from fat? On the flip side how does preventing muscle loss on a deficit work? Lots of conflicting info floating around
