I don't really agree with that personally. When i started working out as a newbie, for 2 years i only followed routines recommended by experienced lifters. Recommended sets, reps. Following all exercises in order.

Then i just started listen to my bdoy.

I don't follow a workout program, When it's upper day for me. I just go into the gym, and brutally hit all upper body movement with exercises that i feel work for my body structure and feel the most connection with. And ever since i started doing it this way, i increased in strength, and gained 30 pounds of muscle.

When i followed workout programs in order i never felt shit. It just felt that it wasn't suited for me.
