Daily Thread - Weekend Meetup Mixer Megathread

So Dark Zone is currently in a rough spot. This is due to multiple reasons but probably the primary one is the poor mix of PvE and PvP. This isn't to say the concept is crap and can't work but the current execution is far from ideal.

I think this idea of PvPvE can exist. While it would be nice to have a place for a dedicated space it might not be until Division 2 in which the potential of the game is realised. Until then something needs to be done to fix the current Dark Zone.

So what's the actual idea?

We transform the Dark Zone into a faction based system which contains 3 sides.

  • Division Agents
  • Rogue Agents
  • Neutral Agents

Upon entering a Checkpoint the leader of a party or the solo player picks which team they want to represent. This isn't a permanent choice so you can always go back into a checkpoint to change team if you want.

Division and Rogue Teams

Agents on either team cannot under any circumstance injure players on their own team regardless of whether they are in the same group or not. These teams can shoot each other at any time. The rogue system that currently exists would probably need to be reworked as some sort of reputation system.

Each team can capture territory (Each of the 6 zones within the Dark Zone). How exactly they capture this territory is something that can be worked on later. The idea though is that if a team owns a certain zone (Lets say the rogues own DZ1) anyone on that team within that zone would gain a benefit such as;

  • 20% more Dark Zone Exp
  • 20% more dropped dark zone funds
  • Increased drop rate of ammo, materials and keys.
  • Upon death you lose 1 less public item (2 instead of 3)

An enemy agent dying (for any reason) in an enemy held zone would gain the reverse of the above so losing extra stuff instead.

Neutral Players

They would exist like all players currently do in the Dark Zone. They can shoot anybody and become rogue. They would not gain any benefits to playing in one teams captured zone but they would also not gain the disadvantages of dying in an enemy held zone either.

What are the benefits?

This benefits PvE and PvP players alike in addition to giving each side an incentive to try out the other (PvE getting involved with PvP and vice versa).

  • PvP players have a greater context and purpose to PvP
  • PvE players would be able to farm more efficiently and would be less punished for death in a team controlled area
  • PvE players would also have better incentives to work together in loose associations
  • Body blocking/Accidental Rogue would no longer be a problem
  • Groups of 4 could no longer abuse the system of some players in the group being rogue while others are not because of team affliation.
  • There is potential for battles to be less based on running away due to the benefits of being in a friendly controlled zone offer

I tried to avoid too many details and specifics because that stuff can be changed and adjusted as needed but hopefully I've gotten the overall idea across. What do you think? Would appreciated feedback.

TL;DR - Factions and Territory system for Dark Zone. All of the benefits of the old Dark zone without the nonsense.
