Daniel Cormier: Jon Jones can’t be the GOAT because failed drug tests ‘eliminate you from the conversation’

Yeah I saw the headline and while I love DC I don’t agree with it.

I think there’s absolutely an asterisk next to Jones’s name but removing him from the rankings creates a lot of other issues. There’s the debate of if he gets removed totally or is just bumped down, if he’s bumped down how much is it, if he’s removed is it because he has multiple tests (like should Anderson Silva be removed even though he didn’t test positive until after his title reign), do we also include people who fight dirty, what about people who fought in organizations with loose regulations (like Pride) or took stuff that is banned now but wasn’t then (Vitor). I think all those questions have to be discussed and it brings a lot of subjectivity into a debate I want to be as objective as possible in and I think it’s better to just rank them

If someone asked me who the best light heavyweight in MMA history was, I’d say “It’s Jon Jones but he did steroids”. I don’t want to see Jones have a hall of game ceremony, I don’t want him to be honored by the UFC in any way once he retires, I think he should be banned for life if he gets caught doping or gets arrested again and might should’ve already been, but I think that we need to just look at the fights they had when determining the GOATs and then let outside the octagon stuff decide if asterisks are placed. If you disagree with me, that’s fully understandable and I don’t think it’s a bad take.
