Dark Souls x JBP lectures

Being aware of JBP’s work, I think we all understand hierarchies. Is Goosebumps as instructive about life as Dostoyevsky?

Not all fiction is equivalently meaningful. I don’t elevate video games to the level of literature, because they fall far short of offering the same insight, perspective, or opportunity for empathy that actual literature provides. The writing in video games doesn’t affect our minds in a significant way. I’ve played many of the best written games (Half-Life franchise is a personal favorite), but I still never received wisdom from them in the same way I’ve received wisdom from Shakespeare, Marcus Aurelius, or Nietzsche.

Games can be good for the mind, like puzzles or chess, but I don’t think they’re as instructive about life as literature.
