‘Darwinian’ test uncovers an antidepressant’s hidden toxicity. Rodent study finds that exposure to an antidepressant in womb or in youth can cause lifetime decline in sexual behavior, body weight, and competitive ability.

Also one important fact is that it can start when you stop taking the drug. I used to be insanely horny, even though i was depressed. I started an SSRI and it didn't have much effect on my sex drive so I wasn't too worried, just a slight decrease. After almost a year on it I stopped and was excited to get my libido back to 100%...I took half for 2 week, 1/4 for 2 weeks, 1/8..then none. Except the lower the dose went the lower my sex drive, I couldn't believe it. I couldn't feel my fucking dick, couldn't get horny, can't keep it hard, etc...I did a bit of research and most advises were to "wait it out" and it will " fix itself"...welp, 8 years after it's still the same and has practically destroyed my life. It was extremely hard psychologically on a 20 year old, and still is today. A big part of the problem I think is that this isn't something people like to talk about much, for instance I've never mentioned it to my doctor although I am 100% sure it is due to SSRI because I know there isn't much scientific literature on it yet and I would be told it is due to depression or "ED is more common than you think", etc..This is very different from just ED and ED doesn't happen abruptly when you stop taking an SSRI. Yes I had hormones checked and everything. I can't blame them really they are scientists and have no data to work with regarding PSSD, although some may be more human and inquisitive about it than others, for instance go read the comments from /u/deecaf in this thread who says he is a doctor and is basically laughing at comments saying PSSD could be a thing: "EDIT: The tinfoil hat brigade is out in full force today." Makes you wonder what sort of relationship this guy has with his patients. That said if I hadn't experience it personally and seen how real it is without a shadow of a doubt, I too probably wouldn't take it that seriously either if i was in their position, there just aren't many studies on PSSD so it's hard to accept it as more than just odd individual cases. I did try a few ADs that are said to help with PSSD but to no avail. *over the years I've sporadically done some bits of research and I believe it could be due to desensitization/oversensitization of receptors 5-HT2A, 5-HT2C and maybe 5-HT1A. Will be looking into trying binders of these receptors in the future.
