Data Points Central Thread - Week of November 22, 2018

Hi! Long time lurker, first time poster under a throwaway, for obvious reasons. Not into accidentally doxing myself or something. I think that this may be a helpful DP. Apologies for the length. Just want to be thorough!

I’m 99% sure that I’m under 5/24. I just applied for CSP and received a “pending” message.

I called the number that’s supposed to be a bot (888-338-2586), and a human picked up. She had me verify the phone number that I dialed and then told me that she did not see a recent application in the system, so pls call back in 1-3 business days.

I then called another number (800-432-3117, #, 3, 1, SSN) and received the dreaded “7-10 days” message.

About me—
Net income: $95000
Monthly housing: $0
Current FICO score (as of beginning of month): 770

Recent credit card activity—

16 Nov 2018: received mailer from Chase with an invitation for a CLI. CL increased from $5300 to $9800. The confirmation page contained a link to upgrade to SW Premier. Sent in application; no instant approval. Opened the Chase app the next day, and the card image changed to the Premier card. Confirmed via phone that I was approved.

16 Nov 2018: Requested CLI from Macy’s card that I’ve had since 2008 or so. $2000 to $5000. No hard pull. Don’t think there was a soft pull, either. I think that my jump in income from “broke law/grad student circa 2016” to “corporate attorney” was enough.

12 Oct 2018: Applied for AMEX Hilton Ascend. Approved for $1000 CL (FICO score ~690)

May 2017: Chase Slate, $600 (FICO score was high 600s at the time)

May 2017: SW Plus, $5800 (high 600s)

Jan 2017; Synchrony CareCredit, $4500 (high 600s)

Other than that, my most recent credit card application was either a Synchrony/Amazon card or a Barclays/Apple card, but that would have been early 2013 at the latest.

Credit report factors:

The AMEX Hilton Ascend is not showing up on my credit report yet.

Opened accounts over last two years: 3
Inquiries: 2
Length of credit history: 11 years
Utilization: 4%
Available credit: $25,560. Does not include AMEX, SW Premier CLI, or Macy’s CLI
Student loans: ~154K (I’m an attorney with three degrees so nobody judge me too hard ok)
Personal loan: 20K

I’m not sure what to think. My credit score jumped quite a bit from October to November because I paid off the balances on almost all of my credit cards. My one outstanding balance at the time of my credit score calculation was ~$1400 on my CareCredit, as that was a 0% promotional purchase that won’t accrue interest until February 2019 (at which point I will pay it all off). Over the past few weeks, I’ve been using my AMEX pretty aggressively and then paying it off immediately—I’ve had something like $2300 in organic spending since mid-October (I’ve never used MS methods). Current balance is ~150 with a pending payment. Statement balance is $0.

My best guess is that they’re concerned over the credit score jump and my SW CLI/Premier upgrade. Also, my net income on the SW app was $90000, but my net income on the CSP app was $95000 to reflect a message from my boss that I am receiving an additional $5000 bonus this year.

I opened a Chase college checking account back in May 2013 with my mom as a joint owner. I’ve never had more than $500 in there. We opened the account so that she could get money to me quickly in case of an emergency when I lived in a different city. The balance has been less than $100 for a while now. There’s ~$25 just sitting there. I do my actual banking with Bank of America (ugh) and ally.

I hope that this helps. I appreciate any insight, and I’ll update once I hear back from Chase.
