Dating a Non-Catholic (Independent Church Christian)

This is my first relationship and in all honesty, this guy chased me for 2 years plus and I rejected him 4 times due to the difference in religion (he is a staunch Christian in an independent Church). I decided to give him a chance since we know each other for >7 years and I know him inside out. Safer to date someone you know well, no?

But I did have a talk with him about the difference in religion DAY 2 into our relationship and was bothered about his response. He doesn't expect me to convert and doesn't want me to expect him to convert (which is okay I guess but hard). We are on the same page in terms of intimacy. Nevertheless, he wanted our future children not to be baptised in the Catholic faith and let them choose to follow Dad or Mum's faith when they are older. So I feel very uneasy. I feel like calling it quits but I will give us some time to reflect on these fundamental issues. It is a test I feel sometimes, maybe God is trying to see if I seek the relationship with Him above all?
