Dave Rubin is the Thomas Paine of our time

I got really irritated about his comments on free speech and sent him an e-mail about it. I used to be a fan after hearing him on Rogan and listening to his conversations with Sam Harris, but now it's devolved into really trivial bitching and obfuscation of facts.

If you're interested, here's the e-mail I sent.

You recently put up a video claiming that the left is trying to silence people using violence. While I agree that this is a problem, you appear to have a difficult time breaking out of your right-wing narrative and facilitating a true moderate discussion. In particular, you ignore people like Eddy Brock (https://theintercept.com/2017/02/04/amid-chaos-berkeley-grinning-face-covered-blood/), who will get in the faces of protestors, invade their personal space, confront them aggressively, and then shout about being a victim to try and prove your bullshit point. I want to point out this video in particular: https://twitter.com/malinisramaiyer/status/826972398029152256

You have neglected reporting of right-wing violence, racism, and actions that run counter to modern American values. Here is something to help you with that: http://americasvoice.org/trumphatemap/

If you love free speech so much, why have you not covered the continued attempts to violently silence people peacefully protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline by illegal mercenary groups like Tiger Swan. This was reported by Jeremy Scahill: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwLXeACMYMU

and by Democracy Now, where it was reported that rubber bullets were fired at journalists: https://www.democracynow.org/2016/11/21/jeremy_scahill_tigerswan_security_linked_to

Why don't you talk about the fact that the voice of the left was effectively silenced in the Senate, when Elizabeth Warren attempted to criticize Jeff Sessions by quoting the widow of Martin Luther King, Coretta Scott King: http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/318432-warren-gop-cant-change-the-truth

I'll remind you that Senate Democrats received upwards of 20 million more votes than Republicans in November: http://www.fairvoteblog.com/2014/12/with-louisianas-senate-runoff-election.html

To summarize: you don't care when peaceful protestors and journalists are attacked violently over the Dakota Access pipeline, sidelining their right to free speech.

You don't care about the rise in hate crimes since the election of Donald Trump, or that they rose even in time he was campaigning (https://qz.com/843834/are-hate-crimes-really-on-the-rise-in-america-heres-a-guide-to-the-data/).

You don't care that the government does not represent the majority of people in this country in both the Senate and the Executive branch. Nor do you care that the people who represent those voters were silenced.

You don't care about trolls like Eddy Brock who bait violence out of protestors (and frankly, given his behavior, the person that punched him may have a cut and dry case of self-defense under California law). Nor have you spoken out against the violence of the Trump camp (Spitting on someone is considered battery): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ogdgddvqG4

But you care about a minor rabble of protestors who were critical of Yiannopolis' fascist message (and not his right to free speech), and a situation where things got out of hand, violence occurred, and the University shut things down in the interest of public safety.

I agree with you that this is awful. It is unfortunate someone did not get to share their opinion in public. But the fact that trigger warnings, safe spaces, political correctness, and a minor incident (even compared to a sports riot) matter more to you than the violence and subversion of people’s rights that happened far before the Milo incident tells me that you are a coward. If you want to be as fair as you claim, then toughen up and start covering things of consequence. If Jeremy Scahill can criticize both sides, then why can’t you?

I'll admit that I'm a hardcore leftist, but it's weird to me to hear someone drone on and on about violation of free speech, but then ignores the suppression of free speech and other rights when he can't use it to talk shit about TYT or SJWs.
