Well, I can tell you with certainty that until 1993, the Montreal Canadiens fans were absolutely NOT simply a "fair-weather" fan base. Not by my experience at least.

But... given the performance of team ownership and management since that year, then yes...

Increasingly I've seen an undeniable rise in the rate of "fair-weather" fandom.

But that doesn't mean that Canadiens don't have a solid die-hard fan base at the core, no matter their performance in a given year.

I think the Canadiens probably have a more rigid core fanbase than a lot of NHL teams... so I think it would be overall unfair to characterize the fans as simply "fair-weather fans".

But... as the years of bad management and coaching continue to go by... the number of "fair-weather fans" continues to increase...
