See below. Also, you'll notice the words "allegedly" and "accusations" in my comments. That's not assuming what happened, that's talking about a reported event while being careful not to assume what happened.
It's not a general term, it's actually a very specific term
From a statutory perspective in England and Wales, it is "specifically" defined as literally any sort of unwanted contact of a "sexual" nature. Pretty broad for being a specific term, but I wasn't referencing actual criminal code anyway. In a non-statutory way, sexual assault is a blanket term for many different types of unconsenting violations of personal space, including unwanted kissing or touching.
