The David Foster Wallace Disease

I don’t know what to make of this article. It seems like the writer of this needs Wallace to fit into a neat category that can be summed up succinctly. Truthfully, I don’t know why this should be expected of anyone. David was clearly a complicated man full of ideas and oftentimes, contradictions. I don’t read his work anticipating perfection; I read it for the countless jokes, observations, ideas, and insights. Reading David feels like returning home after a long trip. Also, it doesn’t shock me at all that he rejected the genius title. Most of the brilliant people you hear speak will either deny that they are a genius or reject the notion of genius all together.
