DayZ?

It's okay. A lot of the negativity comes from the fact that it didn't live up to its hype. But, no game could have ever lived up to the hype so I think that's not really its fault.

The early magic is gone, and what's left is a PvP-heavy, featureless exploration game. Zombies change every patch. Sometimes they're highly lethal, but only spawn in half the towns. Other times they're pathetic but everywhere. Sometimes they're just bugged. Food is meaningless because apple trees are literally everywhere. Water is meaningless because they can't get diseases and disinfection working.

Weapons used to be limited but with more loot locations being added and more weapons added to the tables it's now almost impossible to play for an hour and not have an assault rifle.

The value of human interaction is nil. Everyone already knows where everything is, and sharing gets you half the loot in exchange for the constant risk of taking a shot to the back of the head. So when you see someone you either shoot them or hide.

Playing with friends is the one redeeming feature this game has. However, you can't control where you spawn and the map is like 800 bajillion square km, so good luck finding each other. You can 'cheat' and google the map and find each other more quickly, but then there's very little to do. You've cheated to find each other, why not cheat to find the nearest military base, load up on guns, and camp spawn zones.

None of this is to say "don't buy DayZ". It's still exciting getting shot at and pinned down in firefights, only to flank your opponent and take all their stuff. It's still amazingly tense to run through a military base at night, solo, knowing that if you stop running for even a second you expose yourself to snipers, but also know that there's great loot on offer if you do stop to pick it up. It's great fun if you artificially limit your play, not using apple trees and ensuring you use a fire and pot to boil all your water before drinking it, etc.

But the game itself is low quality. Its features are underwhelming and/or bugged, its development is moving at a snail's pace, and there's really no end in sight. It's better with friends but the core experience is quite repetitive and one-dimensional.
