DC to DO

FWIW, I disagree with those who say no medical school is going to give a fuck about your experience as a chiropractor.

While your undergraduate GPA and MCAT are important, your personal narrative is equally as important in the application process. I’m a low stat applicant who has had 8 interviews and 5 acceptances this cycle thus far (MD and DO). I come from a nontraditional background. In every single interview I’ve had, someone has commended me for my writing and many have even thanked me for sharing my story with them.

If you paint a picture of yourself as someone who was eager to join the field of chiropractics who later learned that you wished to perform true medicine via the osteopathic medical model… the right school will see value in this. They will appreciate you sharing your journey with them. And especially will appreciate that through your experiences as a chiropractor, you discovered that your true passion is to become a physician… that will be a valuable story to tell.

Is it clinical experience? No. Is it an experience you should include in your app because it’s literally your story? Absolutely. You also won’t be the first person to successfully make that switch. Just educate yourself on WHY physician. Be prepared to explain in great detail why NOT chiropractics. And I think you can do this. Good luck!
