De-tribalization thread! What is something you largely disagree with other people on your side on?

If you want to make it your cause, that's fine and I wish you luck. I'm just pointing out it's a pet cause of the American right wing.

No, you made a claim - that it was irrelevant. You marginalized it, and when I asked you to back up your claim, you restated it. If your casual disregard for tort reform is due to an overwhelming ignorance on the issue and taking a modern liberal ideology as your own wholecloth without the slightest bit of questioning, that's certainly fine - I can't stop you, but you should admit it to yourself.

More importantly, if you do admit it to yourself, then please feel free to invalidate yourself from any criticism of your GamerGate opposition for groupthink, as it would make you a massive hypocrite.

Look, I can called myself a vegan but if I start going on about the benefits of eating buffalo I sure as hell don't sound like a vegan, or am at least pretty selective about what my beliefs apply to.

The vegan lifestyle has a very specific set of rules. Being politically left only requires you to accept very few beliefs from a pool. It certainly doesn't require me to accept the entire fucking ideology of the American Democratic Party. I've never said I was a progressive. I do have ideas that align with progressives, but I support some very conservative ideas (like privatizing Social Security). I've stated I'm left of center because more of my views are liberal then conservative, and my voting pattern (Obama, Obama, Kerry, Bush, if you must know) shows left of center. However, I am not a straight ticket in any sense of the word.

When you said Wu was asking for it. And then doubled down on that statement when you were called out for it.

Wu did ask for it once. http://i3.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/911/071/09d.jpg_large

However, her initial harassment by 8chan was terrible. Please feel free to consult my archives where I have sandblasted people for trying to disassociate the toxic rhetoric that occurred in 8chan's /gg/ board the day she was doxxed and threatened from the act itself. If you'd like, ask any one of a number of the GGers around here about my position.

I have never downplayed her trauma. I have felt severe disgust at her response to it. I do feel like she markets her tragedy for her benefit. These are mutually exclusive arguments.

Because I will not accept any rationalization or excuse for harassment.

Do you oppose Randi Harper then?

I dunno, do I get to speculate on whether or not you're a professional victim?

You certainly can, and then I can argue against it, just like I have for Zoe and Anita.

Sarcasm aside, do you not see how that works as a silencing tactic? Policing a victim's response to being victimized is one of the oldest ones in the book.

I'm not policing a word she has ever said. If she wants to write for Bustle, get on TV, write a fucking book, or do whatever she wants to evangelize the message that she's a victim, I have no issues with it.

I have issues with her soliciting donations she doesn't need based on that.

So the only ethical way to, as you say, 'bilk the tragedy' of her harassment is disclose her finances? That's an...entertaining view, unless I've gotten your logic wrong somewhere along the line.

You've completely gotten me wrong. Anita's never solicited funds for herself, only Feminist Frequency. And her financial documentation is proof that Feminist Frequency isn't just a shell funneling money to personal accounts. I feel like Anita provides decent content and people choose to pay her to produce more. Funding her gives me a tangible benefit [Full Disclosure: I backed the FemFreq Kickstarter and gave FemFreq a second donation this year] - since Anita's content is free, I find it a valuable donation. I also donated to Reading Rainbow, much along the same lines of reasoning.

As a note, I also gave a small sum to Zoe Quinn via Patreon in response to Michael Cernovich hiring a professional detective and doxxing her. I felt like she's gotten far more harassment then a young woman should possibly get for being fucking indecisive in a relationship, a character flaw very common in young women. I felt it had gone way beyond the pale, and that the least I could do is buy the poor girl a nice dinner. It was wholly unsolicited.

Funding Brianna Wu gives Brianna Wu money. She's accepting donations to allow her to make, distribute, and sell full-priced commercial products. If you support her Patreon because you like her work, you are paying for the privilege to pay her. (Her Kickstarter did offer copies of the PC version, but her Patreon has no rewards or goals.)

I don't agree with that. Considering she Kickstartered the work she also Patreon'd, and she admittedly bought a brand new motorcycle, she may want to disclose exactly where all this money is going.
