Deadly book in real history

is community survived off of making warfare and raiding caravans that past through the area (primarily ones from Meccca)

Yup. War is hell. And that's probably what they did, raided the Quraish caravans. Though like you said, cant blame them. War, specially in Arabia, was brutal. Just to give you an example of what how hellish it was ....

When Muhammad's "favorite" uncle Hamza was killed, a woman called Hind mutilated his corpse and chewed up his his raw liver. She and the other women also mutilated the corpses of other fallen Muslims in battle and made their noses and ears into anklets and bracelets. When Muhammad retook Mecca though, she was forgiven.

real issue is that most people don't follow the Bible literally and stone their wives whereas there are a few select people following the Quran literally and wrecking havoc.

True, true. And that's probably because of lower literacy rates in Muslim countries compared to European ones. Take the stoning of wives for example....that practice is really only now found in parts of rural Afghanistan. And even there, it has become quite rare now.

And with lower literacy rates also comes a more primitive understanding of religion as well. Due to the extraordinary conditions set forth by Islam (like for adultery for example , IIRC something like four people have to walk in and actually witness "the act of penetration" to qualify as witnesses . No, laying in bed/kissing doesnt count. They actually have to see the thing go inside the thing to qualify. And not just one person walking in. Four people walking in. And those 4 people also have to be found to be never telling a lie, never being dishonest ever in their entire lives etc etc ) in order to "actually stone someone", almost all contemporary Islamic scholars believe that the punishment was mainly imposed to act as a deterrent.

But try explaining that to tribal Afghans who want to stone women....for being women.
