The Dean of Students of Claremont McKenna College has resigned following calls for her resignation after students of color articulated concerns about the Dean of Students office being unsupportive towards students of marginalized identities

Your understanding of the reality on CMC's campus is effectively nil, if this is actually your belief.

It's an unbelievably safe environment full of smart, accepting students. There wasn't a racial issue on campus, there is now because it's been manufactured.

Yep, it did. Check out the follow-up written by the student groups proposing the resource center: http://cmcforum.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/FINALMarginalizedStudentArticle.pdf[1] . It's an issue taking place within the school so you won't find information about it in the media.

No it didn't, it absolutely didn't. The administration told them that they hoped it would be highly likely it would get done this semester. They came back later and said they wouldn't be able to have something permanent this semester (and no matter the protesting, they still won't be able to get it done this semester because it's not possible.)

Religious studies? History? Government? International Relations? You really think there couldn't be a diverse faculty in these subject areas? Do you even know anything about CMC, it's mission, or the culture on campus? Your responses make me think not.

Quite frankly, there fucking isn't. They aren't available, they're not commont, they don't come to CMC. Go watch some of the presentations put on for faculty decisions, they're open to everyone. The applicants aren't there.

Yet even then, no one's opposed to making a push towards hiring more diverse faculty, they just aren't fucking there. Pomona, a much bigger and more diverse school, was on like an 8 year stretch of hiring only white/asian staff until a year or two ago.

When email after email is sent out about racially offensive costumes to avoid, and then shit like this happens, it makes it seem like some white students on campus are deliberately ignoring calls for racial sensitivity (and reasonable calls, at that).

There were two.... two students with a couple of mildly distasteful costumes. Those e-mails don't have the right to force anything, you can still wear what you want.

It's easy for white males - me being one myself - who have never had their cultural heritage openly mocked by their peers to brush this stuff off as "not a big deal."

The girl on the left is wearing a puritan costume, it's no worse. What those kids were wearing is incredibly common in both American and Mexican media as a lampoon of some traditional Mexican costume.

But these actions certainly give the campus an unwelcoming atmosphere, along with all of the other persistent problems listed in the student letter that I linked above.

There were 20 some grievances listed in the student letter, which required that these kids go back through 3 years of history to find what are largely a bunch of uncontextualized, unsubstantiated, incredibly mild, and sometimes downright misleading examples.

I won't support the resignation of Dean Spellman, but to say that students are acting offended over nothing shows a clear ignorance concerning the struggle that student activists have been involved in for months now.

There are some challenges being a POC at the school, none of which were addressed by this movement. They decided to take cheap shots at minor issues and make it a vendetta towards a woman who has been incredibly helpful and supportive to many students on campus. This group made an issue which nearly every student on campus wants to see improved (we all want to see friends/classmates we study with, work with, hang out with etc. feel comfortable and welcome on campust), a divisive, vicious, entirely negative, and combative issue.

In summary, you clearly don't know much about CMC or the history behind recent events.

Quite frankly, I think you have no clue what goes on at CMC.
