Dear mods, please understand you're going the completely wrong way about this.

Removed post:

I'm tuning in a bit late since I was sleeping during the huge sprawl last night over censorship, but there's so much going on here that frustrates me and I'm going to lay it all out on the table. No I'm not going to go to /r/ventgrumps or /r/conspiracygrumps so don't direct me there. I'm not going to be nasty. Promise. That said, mods, what in the world are you doing?

This post was removed in order to avoid shitstorms by people who frequent both the main sub and its smaller variants. I understand that people can and will say mean things to one another in order to defend their own points. But why on earth does the entire thread need to be censored because of this? You may think I'm using the word 'censored' lightly, however:

CENSOR: an official who examines material that is about to be released, such as books, movies, news, and art, and suppresses any parts that are considered obscene, politically unacceptable, or a threat to security. It's exactly what the mods are doing.

Pointing out that the miiverse post is either obscene or politically unacceptable is silly. To say it's endangering anyone's security is also a bit of a stretch, but let's say that's what the mods' mindset is. You know how to solve this? You delete the comments that exercise harassment or cruelty. You don't delete the entire discussion. By doing that, you're essentially sending off the message that being a bully gets you what you want. One of the rules is "Don't be a jerk" So how come so many actually offensive comments are left to float about while comments or posts that are critical or raise questions are almost immediately concealed? Discussion is not inherently BAD. Just because two individuals disagree does not make the environment toxic as they put it. If anything, it can help the other to understand viewpoints that are not their own and make for a more open mind if handled correctly. Someone made a post here asking for a legitimate reason as to why the post was deleted A mod then goes on to say that all this time posts related to Jonspiracy, or Jon's departure, or anything critical of the show were deleted via an invisible rule that was enforced but not made concrete on the sidebar. What? Why would you do that? Were you told to do that?

The mods have since then made a new rule to fit their agenda.

This is a personal matter between the parties involved and is none of our business, and only serves to make the subreddit an unfriendly environment.

No, it doesn't. You have the power to control what gets displayed in every thread, but you're distracted by the power to delete the thread as a whole. The last two rules are apparently synonymous with each other, and I don't see how or why. This is not the key to having a smooth running subreddit at all. If you're worried that the Game Grumps are never going to come back, then shame on you. Don't be afraid of the people you admire, and don't adjust what you say to fit what you believe are their standards. It's not fair to them, or to you. I read all of the responses on the aforementioned thread. The mod claims deleting comments individually is more harsh, and makes moderating as a whole a lot harder. This may be true, but one must remember what's 'right' and what's 'easy' aren't mutually exclusive.

When you have a thread that already crashed and burned, you don't try to smack the pieces back into shape. It's much more time effective to just throw those in the landfill, considering it was going to crash again anyways. But the thread hadn't crashed and burned. It has over ninety upvotes. There was no harassment. Any comment that was mindlessly insulting the other party got negged to the bottom. You know, because they were being jerks. You can walk by every mess and sprinkle confetti over it but you can't deny there's still a mess underneath, and that you're only making it bigger. As someone else put, it is not your place to decide the content, but rather hide content that is potentially hurtful. The rest should be left up to us via upvote and downvote buttons. We can take care of ourselves.

I know you're probably part of the /r/ConspiracyGrumps crowd, but seriously, honestly, we don't censor anything for the Grumps. I'm so tired of the word conspiracy getting thrown around here like it's a bad word. Many of you may roll your eyes at the conspiracy subreddit but half the time, they make proposals and they're right. No rule on the sidebar is enforced nearly as much as this quote unquote "invisible" rule is, or was , and I'm irritated by it, yes. I understand mods have other things to do besides worry about us, but if it's that much a burden on their conscience to let people discuss controversial topics then maybe someone else should take the reins. Reminder, this is not an attack. This is criticism. There is a distinction. I don't want anything bad to come of this subreddit, the mods, or the fans. I'm just stating my views.

TL;DR the new rule will backfire, and it will backfire badly.

EDIT: Guess I pushed a button or two because someone is going through my submission history and downvoting everything.

EDIT 2: Holy shit, someone popped my gold cherry. Thanks very much dude/

EDIT 3: Now mods are leaving.
