Dear poor people, you suck! Also, please come work for us.

This is the answer right here. Unpopular opinion - we're paying people to stay home. I'm not saying the stimulus checks and enhanced unemployment weren't necessary for a lot of low skilled workers (restaurant, bartenders, retail clerks, etc.) to survive during the worst part of the crisis but that time is over. Hard fact - ringing a cash register, stocking shelves or pouring a beer are not skills that warrant $20/hour. The local manager of a chain restaurant, bowling alley, or Staples has a wage scale set for them by some bean counter in their corporate office. If they're already paying 12.50/hour and people don't want the job because they are at or close to that by staying home what are they supposed to do? The only thing they can do is try to keep running with what they have and hope those people don't quit because they're overworked or their business eventually fails because customers lose patience for poor service. The same goes for mom and pop places trying to hang on.

Whether you agree with that or not the point is that it's not sustainable long term for the economy. The people that are working cannot sustain the people that refuse to work for any length of meaningful time, eventually the money runs out. The government does not have boatloads of magic money to keep handing out - their only source of revenue is collecting taxes or levying tariffs and fines - period.

There are plenty of jobs and people have no incentive to work because the government is paying them to stay home. Downvote away.
