The death of a young adult is generally sadder than the death of a child.

1) Interactions are mostly situational. There are things you're not meant to say in given situations. Compare the death of a child to that of another of different age is one of those. We don't pretty much know the context in which op said what he said, nor we know how insulting the reactions of the people he was talking to were. 2)Of course, no one is denying the influence of evolution and brain-chemistry to human's complexity. The thing is most of us are empathetic and know that even a newborn dying is terribly painfull for the parents. Biologywise, since it's of their interest to reproduce and continue the genepool, and sociolgywise, since people have the ability to plan ahead and have ilussions. Which is a great Transition to 3) come on, you're for one communicating in a network of people you may be miles away from. I'm sure most animals don't have that option. The fact you're talking about dopamine, brain-chemistry, biologywise, hell, the fact that you're talking at all and doing so in an undestandable matter, is because we, as humans, as a whole, have a social-apparatus that provides us with knowledge. The fact you don't have to worry about your survival and can specialize in a really specific branch of society is in itself enough prove, that we're not only more complex than other animals, but on a whole different liebe of complexity. You even said it yourself: there's little to no difference (in terms of intelectual capacity) between a newborn and some other mammal. Then it is a statement to the complexity of man as something more than the result of mere chemicals interacting in the brain that that newborn, when grown up, through processes that are more of a social nature than of a natural one, will share the same complexity that you and I have.
