December 13-15

Yeah, this is where I have a problem. I have addiction issues, but I went to treatment for those specific issues, and have done active work on my recovery. And I’m very much of the mindset that recovery looks different for everyone, because I personally don’t connect with the 12-step process and it actually has an incredibly low success rate. But there are a LOT of alternatives, and you can pull valuable pieces of insight and knowledge from 12-step or whatever else. My issue is really that, as far as I can tell, she’s literally never done any recovery work of any kind, but just says she’s in recovery because she “quit using Adderall on [whatever Mediterranean island] after Cambridge.” That’s not recovery. Recovery involves a LOT of work, and it’s not just getting sober from one specific substance while still casually using one that’s chemically very similar (and honestly, it’s somewhat questionable as to whether she’s always sober from amphetamines). It involves psychological work, which I definitely don’t think she’s doing with Phillip when it comes to substance abuse, and it involves truly confronting past behaviors. And it arguably involves a lot more than that, depending on how you want to define it. But it’s definitely not just saying, “I stopped using Adderall, so therefore I am in recovery.” I don’t care for most AA speak, but I do think that’s basically what they refer to as “dry-drunk-ing” and it really annoys me as someone who has and does put in work towards actual recovery. Then again, maybe it’s just me being annoyed in general with how Caroline constantly gives herself all sorts of titles without ever doing any of the work to actually earn them, while the rest of us in life never seem to be able to do the same (or possess too much of a conscience to try).
