Deciding on circumcision?

There are medical benefits to circumcision. Reduced risk of UTI, contracting and transmitting some STDs, reduced risk of penile cancer. Yes, these risks can be reduced via circumcision as an adult. Adult circumcision is a more complicated procedure with the greater risk of complication than neonatal circumcision by knowledgeable medically trained providers.

In a perfect world safe sex practices make circumcision medically unnecessary. However we don't live in a perfect world, and with the rise of things like antibiotic resistant gonorrhea, there are serious benefits to circumcision. There are also benefits to it being done on newborns as opposed to adults.

As for the cons, reduced sexual sensitivity, studies go both ways. I think that the evidence leans more toward no loss of sensitivity.

Babies do feel pain, and local anesthesia has risks of its own.

I don't know what we will do with our son, I just wanted to let you know that there is science that supports circumcision. Google WHO, CDC... reports on circumcision if you want to read some.

Ultimately it's your decision. (If you feel moral that it shouldn't be then don't do it)
