Deciding to pursue a PhD is a pretty big life decision, right?

Everyone's different, so there's no right or wrong way really to think about or to approach something like this. Yes, for some, there's a lot of agonising and deliberation that goes into whether or not to do a PhD; I suspect this is more likely if you have one or more clear concrete alternatives to doing a PhD, so you are faced with an obvious "fork in the road" in your path of life. Whereas for others, doing post-grad really might feel like going down the path of least resistance -- not because getting into grad school isn't hard or requires lots of work, but just because they're already in University, they like academic study, and they really don't have any clear idea about what else they'd want to do other than more of the same.
