This decision seems long overdue...

I was an officer in the Navy for nine years, five active duty. I can't speak to everyone's experience. I served mostly in the northeast/mid Atlantic, though I did have one duty station in Florida. I didn't see the Confederate flag much, but when you did, it was almost always displayed by senior enlisted leadership.

You wouldn't see it in offices or on official Navy property, but it would be on the back of their Ford F-150 (which almost every chief in the Navy seems to drive) right next to their Calvin pissing sticker or some other redneck regalia. I, for one, am glad that the Navy is finally banning all use of this flag without discretion at their installations. It's no different than any other hate symbol and represents an enemy of the United States.
