Deep brain stimulation for relieving Parkinson's. This technology is helping millions of people with the disease to properly eat

I'll just clarify something from the other comment. When a clot in your brain suddenly blocks off a blood vessel, that is a stroke.

Vascular dementia is characterised by multiple minor strokes occurring over many years. The individual strokes may be so small so as to not be noticed when they happen, but over time they build up. Although of course major strokes can contribute as well.

The classic feature of vascular dementia is that progression is "step-wise". While Alzheimer's and Parksinon's generally get continuously worse, vascular dementia will worsen in discrete 'steps' over time.

Interestingly you can also get vascular Parkinson's disease if the multiple small strokes occur in the specific part of the brain which Parkinson's affects.
