In Defense Of: "Jaws 2"

Hey, r/movies!

Just wanted to share this with you all. As you can tell from the title, it's my own personal defense of Jaws 2, and the first of a series I started last year. I started doing it on my own site, but after just a few I was contacted to start doing them for We Got This Covered.

The whole point of these In Defense Of features is to take a film that's often seen in a bad light - i.e. abysmal box office coupled with a negative critical consensus, perhaps - and, well, defend it. That doesn't mean that any given film I defend should suddenly be seen as a masterpiece, or even great, but I want to address its faults while shining a light on its merits, which can be anything from its musical score to its performances to moments of genuine creativity and so on. The ultimate point is that the films are (or can be) still entertaining in spite of their faults.

Aside from Jaws 2, I've done one for The Mummy Returns (2001) and Van Helsing (2004) on my own site, followed up by ones for The Punisher (2004), Predator 2 (1990), Tron: Legacy (2010), Deep Blue Sea (1999), and Death Sentence (2007) for WGTC, with ones for films like Hook (1991), Ghostbusters II (1989), and more on the way!

I'd love to know what you think of any of them, what points you agree or disagree with, and discuss with you any other films you personally would defend! (At the least, I hope a few of you find some enjoyment out of reading them.)
