How portfolio transfers work, and how long does it take?
Transferring a portfolio is a manual process and may take several weeks to complete. The processing time does not depend solely on the institution that is transferring the securities but also on the cooperation of the receiving institution and the depositories.
Under normal circumstances, we expect that transfers can be processed within 4-6 weeks, however, this can differ depending on the counterparty. If foreign securities are involved, clients should expect a lengthier processing period.
What should I know before requesting a portfolio transfer?
Once we have initiated your portfolio transfer, you cannot trade your securities until the transfer is complete. Therefore, we do not recommend requesting a portfolio transfer when the market is volatile.

DEGIRO charges a fee of €10.00 + external costs per position to transfer. These external costs can vary and may exceed €100 per position depending on the exchange. For example, the external costs for positions on the LSE is €44.00, the ISE is €74.00, and the NYSE/NASDAQ is €46.00 (approximately).It is also possible that your other broker or bank may also charge a fee for transferring your portfolio.
Please note we can only accept outgoing transfers to one of the 18 countries that we offer our services to. Unfortunately this does not extend to the United States or Canada.
How to proceed?
After taking all the mentioned considerations into account, if you would like to proceed with your transfer request, please reply to this e-mail providing:
a completed Portfolio Transfer Form if you have not already (attached to this email). your acceptance of the transfer fees. an overview of the securities you would like to transfer if you have not already. This can be a screenshot or an account statement showing your name and account number at your other provider.
