Democratic-backed Connecticut bill would ban ‘Latinx’ term

This comment will probably get buried but I do not understand why people are so offended by the term.

That's not how Spanish works!

Cool, it's not a word in Spanish. It's a word in English. It is meant to be used in English, and not Spanish. Yes, the term originates from Spanish speakers. Spanish speakers who also speak English. Latino and Latina are also words of English. They are also words of Spanish. If you said the sentence "My boss is a tall latino man." you are not temporarily speaking Spanish for one word of that sentence. It's English the entire time.

Most latinos are against it.

Most latinos aren't gender-queer Americans of hispanic descent/origin which are the people who self-identify with this term. (Many do not, I already know.)

This was forced on our community!

By who? Who is forcing you? What punishments are you receiving for using the terms latino and latina?

I do agree that the term is over-used and over-applied in academics and journalism. Unless the topic of discussion is gender non-conformity among Latino communities in the United States, it shouldn't be used. However limited the scope of the term should be, I don't think it's worth legislating about. That's just culture war anti-woke bullshit.
