Denied medical — anyone know about appeals?

Hi,

I saw your post. I was in your exact place in February 2017. I got denied medical clearance for Georgia because I had been seeing a therapist for the similar things as you. Some small differences is that I had completed my therapy in October 2016 right at the same time I submitted my application for Peace Corps, and I was only diagnosed with an adjustment disorder after finishing grad school and ending a shitty relationship.

I appealed the decision. Here's what I did -I had to write a second mental health statement more clearly explaining why I had been in therapy with explicitly clear, detailed and personal information -Get my therapist to write a letter more clearly explaining the diagnosis; -I had to seek a second opinion. The only person I found who would fill out the paperwork required me to have three appointments at $150 a pop which my insurance didn't cover. -I also had a professor from grad school write me a letter of support about therapy as a means of self-care ( I went to school for social work).

But as I write this I'm in Georgia with 1.5 years in country completed. Was it worth it? Not a doubt in my mind. Don't give up if you really think you are meant to do this.

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Chelsea
