Denzel Curry - ZUU ALBUM REVIEW

I feel like the word pretentious is thrown at people who give criticism to undermine their validity. I feel like people are hurt when they enjoy an album and a critic says that it's bad. The listener then subconsciously or consciously realizes that a review indirectly states that they enjoy a bad album, meaning that they may indeed have shit taste. I think it's a matter of caring too much about what others think that makes it pretentious to them. It hurts their ego knowing someone doesn't agree with them, especially if they are respected. "ITS MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY!" or "I enjoyed this album and they think it's bad? Then they must be wrong. I'm now going to throw a fit." I know that sounds a little over the top, but perspective is everything. I'll admit that I've let the reputation of critics and their opinions dictate how I listen to an album, but for the most part, I use it to have a differing opinion to bounce mine off of. It feels great when they feel the same way though. It honestly emulates having a discussion with someone on an album you just listened to. It creates dialogue and allows you to really dive deep into a body of work. Some would call that pretentious but I feel like its thrown at anyone who doesn't take things at face value. So what makes them pretentious to someone else? It's ego, lack of maturity, bitterness, inability to think about something deeply, to take opinions for what they are, etc. I would take pitchforks or TND's opinion over an everyday fan, knowing damn well these people haven't listened to half or even a quarter of the music these journalists have. Critiques have a job and I think these two do it very well.

Then again, I may be wrong.
