Departing Australia. Arriving in China.

China has had massive economic growth, with which comes pollution, but its also become by far the biggest investor in clean energy, and no other country comes even remotely close. China accounts for a quarter of all clean energy worldwide.

Compare just how much China has grown:

Shenzhen in 1970's vs. Today

Shanghai in 1980's vs. Today

According to the IMF, China has overtaken the US as the largest economy in the world in 2014.

China produces more clean energy than any other country, by an gigantic margin

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), China is "playing a leading role in the global clean revolution and will continue to do so in the coming years."

China extends lead over US as top green energy backer

China’s investment in clean energy, including renewables and efficiency improvements, rose 32 per cent to a record $89.5bn, with about three quarters of that going into wind and solar power. This is 42% more than the 2nd place US.

China’s renewable energy investment is part of its 12th Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development, which calls for the country to spend $473.1 billion on clean energy investments from 2011 to 2015

In 2013, China led the world in renewable energy production, with a total capacity of 378 GW, mainly from hydroelectric and wind power. As of 2014, China leads the world in the production and use of wind power, solar photovoltaic power and smart grid technologies, generating almost as much water, wind and solar energy as all of France and Germany's power plants combined.

China’s renewable energy sector is growing faster than its fossil fuels and nuclear power capacity. Since 2005, production of solar cells in China has expanded 100-fold. As Chinese renewable manufacturing has grown, the costs of renewable energy technologies have dropped dramatically. Innovation has helped, but the main driver of reduced costs has been market expansion

For all the circlejerking about evil bad China and how Europe is making wind farms and clean energy, China produces more clean energy than all European countries combined. Almost twice over.

Cue evil China rants.
