there will be idiots defending this kind of practice saying how bungie needs paid cosmetics to keep afloat despite the fact that each year we get paid DLC with season pass AND from now on battle pass
cosmetics locked behind content in MMO can give a real incentive to keep playing so yes it does affect gameplay or rather strips game from potential gameplay - look at mounts pets and xmog gear in wow
it's funny how actibliz, the big baddie of gaming world has less cosmetic items locked behind a paywall in WoW than everyone's favorite bungie and that's ignoring the fact how in wow each expansion feels completely different, riddled with countless areas to explore and not just copy paste locations but handcrafted with love, where each element tells a story. Locations full of new creatures to slay. Dungeons and raids that feel different from one another new abilities, couple builds per class
forsaken had what? like 2 boring open world locations with same enemies recycled since d1 and cookie cutter builds? and joke pvp implementation?
When I bought d2 i didn't expect such half assed content variety
What's my point? Well, I only played forsaken and sure I had a lot of fun but it always felt like it costed very little to develop, it made no sense for them to monetize it to such heavy extent
Part of me wanted to believe all of that was activision's fault. Now it is clear that bungie is just yet another money hungry aaa company
