Destiny and Behavioral Science/Psychology

Here are some suggestions/feedback after watching the video. I went to school for these types of things (PR, Electronic Publishing, English) so I feel qualified enough to suggest improvements.

  • Your voice. It is quite monotone throughout most of the video. You sound bored/unenthusiastic and as if you were reading a script. If you were, don't read it straight; instead; memorize it AND read it. Doing this will allow you to internalize the script and your mind will naturally add infliction/emphasis on ideas you feel strongly about. Also, it will give you room to add any additional commentary you may come up with while recording. A lot of YouTubers/musical artists use this method. Your actual words/script were great but the delivery fell short.

  • The echo effect on your voice. Was that intentional? It is very distracting. If you use Audacity, there are a lot of filters you can use to get rid of it or at least reduce it. Google it up or let me know if you can't figure it out. Again, your commentary was great but how you delivered it can be improved.

  • Quotes. Rather than just reading back the quote from the Halo 2 ViDoc, maybe try actually putting that segment into the video. I realize things get a little iffy with copyright and whatnot but do your research and see if you are allowed to do that. There are a lot of helpful subs on Reddit that are populated by many YouTubers. Ask around and see what they tell you.

  • Graphics. You had a lot of unnecessary pictures/memes in the video. They weren't bad but including them contradicts the "video game science" nature of the channel. If you want to include them, make them quick. Watch MattPatt's videos; his memes and stuff are quick and don't distract from the video. He DOES go overboard at times but, for the most part, they work.

  • Speed. You talked a little too fast at times. At 2:10, when you defined a reinforcer, you jumped right into it with no pause at all. Slow down. Silence can be used effectively to make a point or signal transitions between ideas.

  • It is more important to have text line up than pictures/graphics. Ideally, you want everything lined up perfectly but it is not always possible. Your reinforcement schedule graphic is an example; you chose to line up the small pictures over the words, making it look off.

  • You need to include sources for things like graphs, definitions, quotes, etc... anything you would have to source in a school paper, you should source in your videos. You have some, but most are missing. If you want your channel to be taken seriously as a smart and informative gaming channel, you need that professionalism and thoroughness.

  • Find higher resolution images. Some were quite blurry. Also, try to avoid using things like game mascots such as the Vault Boy thumbs-up. Again, it doesn't fit well with the idea of a "video game science" channel.

  • Your comment at 6:30 about Bungie seeing their players as nothing but money bags was unnecessary, as were some other negative comments. You came across as if you were doing nothing but bashing the game; I noticed someone in your comments felt the same. When it comes to making critical analysis/opinionated content, people are more likely to agree with you if you leave out strong statements like "Bungie sees it's players as nothing but money bags" and "Bungie's decision to not bring back Year 1 weapons was stupid." You must be very careful about confirmation bias; you will come across as overzealous. If you absolutely feel the need to say something like that, your words need to be chosen VERY carefully and you need to back up your claims with solid evidence.

  • Your bag example was absolutely perfect.

  • Some grammar errors in the text.

Overall, the video was good but your delivery could use some work. If you want an example of a "smart" gaming channel, check out PBS Game/Show. This guy's videos are smart, thorough, great infliction and pronunciation in his voice, relevant video and graphics, clean text, cites sources, and all the things a "smart" gaming channel needs to do. Yes, I realize he has PBS behind him but he runs the channel mostly independently. Be a little bit more clean and thorough with your videos and they will be top-notch.
