The Deterioration of the Christian Right Is Imminent

But each generation does have an expiration date -- along with their common memories and the beliefs that often go with them.

Each generation grows up with cultural indoctrination (intended or not) that is linked to specific historic events & messages repeated over and over by influential people in news and entertainment.

The oldest generation grew up in a favorable economic system at the same time they often heard the message that anyone can make it if they just work hard enough. That message was largely true when they were young adults.

A college education was more attainable -- thanks to government support of colleges, lower costs & hourly wages that purchased more necessities than now. Back in the day, one income could take care of a spouse, children and a mortgage. Since then, labor jobs that paid well have gone overseas or disappeared altogether.

The conditions they had when younger don’t exist anymore, but that's when their beliefs were formed and reinforced. Too many of our oldest citizens haven't adjusted their beliefs to match economic and global changes. They blame individuals instead of looking at how the system in which we live is holding back younger people now.

Fox exploits and reinforces the message that it’s individuals who need to change. They demonize those who want to change our systems (Obama and liberals). It benefits Murdoch and other rich people who benefit from the status quo.

The good news is that Fox is having a harder time selling its message that individuals can make it on their own. These days it’s harder to make the point that selfish greed is good (not a dime more for taxes to help our children, neighbors and publicly-funded projects).
