I know all about LiPo packs from my RC aircraft flying days, but that was about where my knowledge stopped.

I did have one go up on me once! I would transport them in an ammo can for the minor fireproofing... one time I was getting ready to head to the flying field and I guess I accidentally closed the leads in the lid of the can. Was walking up my basement stairs with it when I saw smoke coming out of the side of it.

Ran it outside and dumped it on some concrete, let it do its thing, and then used the old salty water trick to neutralize it.

Scary shit... had I not been holding the thing and seen it smoking it would have gone up in my basement or in the trunk of my car. Neither scenario would have been ideal.
