Devil's Den

I live in NW Arkansas and Devil's Den is a pretty short drive from where I live. I've spent a good deal of time there. Right now is a good time of year to go of course, being fall time and perfect weather. It's a pretty popular park and this time of year it'll probably have a decent number of people staying there if it's a weekend. Might wanna look into a reservation for a campsite, but there are also places right outside the park that you don't have to pay to stay in, but they're hit or miss.

You said you haven't been camping since you were young. What gear do you have available to you? Decent camping gear - mainly shelter and sleeping gear - makes a big difference as to whether you enjoy yourself or not. You absolutely will want to be warm when sleeping, will want a sleeping pad ($5 foam pad under your sleeping bag makes it so much easier to sleep),

As far as absolute basics go, here's what I'd bring out of my personal gear:

*My tent - Kelty grand mesa 2 *Sleeping bag - marmot trestles 15 degree bag *Foam sleeping pad - bought at walmart for $5 *Headlamp + lantern *Camp stove + mess kit (cutlery, 1 L steel folding cook pot) *Fire-starting materials (lighters, tinder, etc)

Brush up on how to start a fire.
