DICE: why Star Wars Battlefront AT-ATs are on-rails • Eurogamer.net

Hopefully you're joking, cause if not that's one of the dumbest posts I've seen on this sub. DICE games have had micro-transactuons since Bad Company 2 and they're always the same. They don't lock on disc content behind a pay wall, they just give you the option to fully upgrade one vehicle or character class for like five bucks. It's actually a great system IMO. For example I really sucked at flying jets in Battlefield 3, so it would have taken me ages to get all the cool TV Missiles and countermeasures. I used the shortcut option, and even though I still sucked at flying jets, it was a lot more enjoyable when I had all the cool gadgets to play with. I suppose your response to this might be "well then just let people get the the shortcuts for free", but I think that would ruin the game. Since its pretty expensive to shortcut every class and vehicle, the curent system encourages a.very small percentage of players to only bypass a small chunk of the overall progression. If it was made free, then almost every player would instantly unlock everything in the game, taking all the fun of slowly learning the different mechanics as you unlock new ones. If the game had free shortcuts, I'm sure it's longevity and long term player base would take a major hit as there's just wouldn't be as much of an incentive to keep playing. I know /r/games thinks micro transactions are the devil, but just try to consider the specifics of the situation and whether the system actually benefits the players in anyway. In this case, I think it benefits both the players and the developers, so it'd be silly not to include it just because a few people on the Internet might make sarcastic jokes.
