DICK TRACY would have worked better if Warren Beatty had not played the lead

I love this film - it is one of the most visually stunning films ever made. No CGI, just incredible model work, matte paintings, lighting and make up. Also one of Danny Elman's most underrated scores. I also like its simplicity.

It is a better film than the messy, empty Batman 1989 IMO and didn't deserve to underperform like it did.

You are right though that Beatty was too old to play DT. Ford would have probably worked better (even though he is only 5 years younger than Beatty) or even Tom Cruise. I also find Pacino's performance grating with the constant asides (I know he is meant to be annoying but even though).

Still love it, shame it's not on Disney+ because of licensing issues.
