WE DID IT!!!!!

The patriots represent new England and therefore Maine

This is why sports fans are insufferable. They think millionaires playing for billionaires somehow represent their whole region. Not the hard working fisherman, the plow crews out keeping the snowy roads clear. Not the rangers keep the woods safe, not the writers who tell about Maine and New England in their novels, or the humorists who make us laugh at our own silly accents and ways of being. I'd much rather you'd cheer like this every time kids graduate from high school, and root for the teachers who made it happen.

I get it. I was a Patriots fanatic for most of thirty years. I finally decided watching football was a waste of time. No one should go through all that stress for the joy of them "winning' something that was meaningless to me. Yes, it's meaningless. It literally means nothing. You don't get more money, you don't get a job, education, roads, fire protection. There is nothing New England gets from their win except a parade that will shut down Boston for part of an afternoon. The quality of your life is not better, you're simply substituting someone else's victory for joy in your own life.

You won't understand this. I'll probably get downvoted for stating it. I really don't care. Football - hell, sports in general - are designed to part you from your money and give you nothing in return but moments of joy and lots of reasons to be angry. It's entertainment, that's all. They don't "win" things for you, you pay them to play for you and that's it. Enjoy it, but stop putting too much stock in what it all means, because at the end of the day, it's really just meaningless fun.
