This isn't really an Irish problem though, it's happening all over Europe and even the United States to some extent. "The West is psychologically weak" and "the Muslims will assimilate us" are talking points that have been debated to death already and they don't do much good in the real world.

Nor is calling it a "culture war" helpful, because it suggest that we have to force Muslims to conform to our ways or face being conquered from within. The reality is rather less dramatic; Muslims have some pretty backwards views on women and sexuality, but they're not all unreasonable pricks like this fella Ali Selim. We can coexist with them and still put an end to FGM and other cruel practices, we just need to seek out the moderates among them and engage with them.
