What's wrong with taking criticism into account?

There's nothing inherently wrong with that, obviously. Spielberg is doing this for his West Side Story remake. He's been meeting with the right people, having discussions, being careful, etc.

But the tenor of the criticism in this particular case just seems over the top and shrill. It's been expressed either sincerely or insincerely (I don't think many older people REALLY care this much) and in a way that ultimately seems immature. After all, the movie is for children, and it's just one interpretation on a character that has existed for years in many forms.

Like I've said elsewhere in this thread, I personally don't like the precedent this sets. Part of the fun of the movies is seeing other perspectives and in the future I don't want to watch, like, Fincher's own peculiar take on like Super Metroid or an original property (unlikely hypotheticals) get set aside due to another outcry.
