Why did you call 911?

I was about six years old and I had heard some very loud noises from the garage at night. I was too scared to get my mom because she was downstairs and i actually became afraid that she was not home at all.

I call the police and tell them someone is in the garage. They can tell i am little so they ask me questions and a huge bang of something falling is heard by the operator, and she said stay on the line with her until the police get there.

They send two cars and one with two cops. They look around the houses and two officers come inside while one stands outside the garage door area.

I tell them where the light switch and garage door opener button - they open the door from the kitchen to the garage and shine lights in, they hear noises but no one responds to their announcement they are armed and will shoot.

They flick on the light and see nothing, then open the garage door and something races out of there.

The officer outside starts chuckling and the others scan the garage and make their way to him. Apparently the biggest raccoon he had ever seen had escaped and they determined the noises i first heard were the fatty getting in through the PG&E meter door.

At this point with all the noise and foots steps of the officers mom finally awoke and arrived on the scene. They told her what happened, and she had the spaces in the meter wall blocked off and the door latch repaired within a day or two.

Mom's high school friend was a cop he teased me about that incident for years. So reflecting upon this now, he would check in us often because my bio-dad had made threats on our lives which i did not know until i was an adult, but they always came immediately if i called.
