Why did former British colonies like Singapore and Hong Kong become so successful economically, while other British colonies didn't?

Great Britain had its navy

It had an army and an empire.

Russia its winter

And an army and an empire.

and the Ottomans were too far away to be truly conquered.

They were closer to france geographically than russia...

But Napoleon managed to take Italy

Italy didn't exist. Napoleon conquered tiny italian city-states.

Spain

Napoleon didn't fully conquer spain. And his invasion of spain was one of the biggest blunders in military history. Of course napoleon made a few of those blunders... France got invaded from spain...

Germany

Germany didn't exist. He conquered tiny german city-states. It's as impressive as the US conquering costa rica.

Switzerland

Are you joking? The fact that you have to resort to including switzerland shows what a joke you are and napoleon was.

Egypt (from the Ottomans)

Napoleon abandoned his army in egypt. It wasn't a success.

the Netherlands...

Are you kidding? Am I supposed to be impressed.

that's a feat even mighty Great Britain never managed.

Britain had better things to do than "conquering" tiny-european city-states...

In my opinion, this map speaks for itself.

Yeah, it shows how tiny europe is and how europe was composed of tiny city-states.

but their continental holdings were unsurpassed until WW2.

It was not holdings. It only lasted a few years.

They completely changed the nature of warfare.

Yes by perfecting the art of the surrender.

Napoleon is the greatest joke in military history moron. Only retards think he is a "great" general. The myth of napoleon was created by the british to make their victory look even more impressive.
