Did I make a mistake going to medical school? M1 who needs advice.

It's all part of the adjustment period we all go through. Start building a good daily routine NOW and it will make your life easier. Structure your days around a good night's sleep, exercise, solid meals, mandatory courses and some time to unwind. You can fill in the rest with studying.

A huge part of adjusting is learning how to study effectively. Unless you're gunning for neurodermatosurgology, I really don't think you need to be studying 8+ hours a day, especially this early in M1. Learn how to study before you go hog-wild on studying.

Don't read textbooks, watch lectures on 1.25-1.75x speed, trust in Sketchy/Pathoma/BnB/Pixorize with corresponding Anki cards, practice often with a Qbank, ask your peers/upper years what's important and useful.

You're gonna make mistakes. You're gonna fail a quiz. You're gonna overburden yourself with too many responsibilities at one point. It's normal and it's all part of the plan. Just embrace it, learn from the mistakes, and move on.

I'm also a huge advocate for making friends as early as possible in M1. Between stress relief and sharing high-yield topics/resources, I genuinely wouldn't have passed without mine. Go out this week and ty and meet people. It's high-yield.
