Why did my boyfriend say I don’t need anti-depressants after the psychiatrist prescribed me some?

Though his advice is coming from a loving place, you should definitely talk to him and let him know how you feel. You’re hurt because he didn’t ask for your opinion/feelings and you feel invalidated. As for the medication, I think you should try seeing a therapist first, if you haven’t already. Sometimes medication like that can really mess with your system. It’s better to try to solve the problem naturally w/o medication first. Therapy might be really helpful for you. I have ADHD and I went to a psychiatrist as a kid for it. First thing they did was prescribe me medication. There’s a huge problem with prescribing people medication w/o trying any other alternatives first. For example, I later learned that I could benefit from accommodations at school to help cope with my disorder. The psychiatrist never informed me of this. As an adult, I’ve used these accommodations to help me in school and I do just fine without the meds. Good luck!
