Did not expect Chris and Moffat to get criticized from this perspective. Any thoughts?

I can see why someone would think that about Mickey’s treatment, but I don’t buy it at all. If they wrote some scripts before making Mickey black, they at least made sure to not have 9 call him a stupid ape.

Ten’s “I’m not even human, just walk about like you own the place” line would be an insanely stupid thing to say in the real world, but it works. Shakespeare (who can see through psychic paper) is the only one who even acknowledges she’s black, which makes it easy to headcanon as a perception filter. There’s a reason the Doctor get’s away with his ridiculous clothes wherever he is.

Forcing Martha to work as a servant in the early 20th century for a long period of time, where she did experience racism (maybe because the TARDIS was on low power mode, no perception filter) is unambiguously racist.

Both are (imo) cases of the script being written without race in mind, with some hasty last minute additions because they had to address it in some way.
