Did Phil Collins ruin Genesis?

If Genesis was indeed ruined during his tenure, Collins certainly didn't do it on his own - Banks and Rutherford (particularly this last one) were also to blame.

Despite my dislike for pop Genesis, I can't blame them for shifting directions. I think most musicians (at least rock and pop ones) can agree that the yearn for stardom is very common and is used as fuel and an incentive to carry on through the making of music. To want to see the career you have spent much time and effort finally come into fruition, in the case of musicians, by selling out stadiums all around the world and sell tens of millions of records is hardly something I can hold agaisnt anyone - I completely understand and relate to that feeling.
